Safe, Pure and Scientifically Validated Products
Kan Herb Company provides extensive
scientific validation. Available for each batch of proprietary product,
our Certificates of Analysis attest to the safety and purity of
our offerings.
The Chinese government does not certify
whether agricultural products are grown organically. Often Chinese
herbal companies purchase extracts and ground powders from manufacturers
that are not GMP certified (few factories in China have GMP certification).
For these reasons, some herbal products made in China are contaminated
with heavy metals, unhealthy additives, or even undisclosed chemicals.
Because tap water, not purified water, is used in the manufacturing
of liquid or concentrated powdered formulas in China, herbal formulas
produced in China may contain unacceptable amounts of heavy metals.
To insure that our products are safe,
pure, and potent, we send herb samples to independent FDA recognized
laboratories for testing. The laboratories conduct the following
tests:
- Pesticide
screens: The National Food Laboratory
(The NFL) performs microbiological conformational testing and
multi-residue pesticide tests, screening for over 250 pesticides,
using the FDA-published Luke Method.
- Heavy
metal screens: The Toxicology Group,
LLC (a wholly owned company of National Sanitation Foundation
International) utilizes Inductively Coupled Plasma-Mass Spectrometry
(ICP-MS) to test for heavy metals: arsenic, mercury, lead, and
cadmium. Our formulas are consistently lower than the USP (United States
Pharmacopoeia), recommended levels for heavy metals in herbal
products, with no more than 3 parts per million (ppm) for any
one heavy metal. In Taiwan, 100 ppm for total heavy metal content
is acceptable, illustrating how quality standards can vary greatly
from one country to another.
- Microbiological
testing: Following FDA BAM methods, NFL validates Kan Herb Company's
laboratory tests for safe limits of total plate count, E.
coli, yeast, mold
and Salmonella.
- Aristolochic
acid testing: Aristolochic acid is a substance found
in certain herbs. In May 2000, the FDA recalled herbal supplements
containing Aristolochic acid. Exygen Research tests for trace
levels of this substance, following the US FDA method, which includes
confirmation by Liquid Chromatography-Tandem Mass Spectrometry
(LC-MS/MS).
Certificates of Analysis
Unlike some companies that test only
randomly, you can be assured that at Kan Herb Company we test each
and every batch of proprietary product for safety, purity and consistency.
Kan Herb Company's Certificates of Analysis document
the results of all laboratory tests performed. For your convenience,
we have added the USP (United States Pharmacopoeia) recommended
levels, whenever available.
We strongly recommend requesting a
Certificate of Analysis for each product you carry in your clinic,
whether or not purchased from Kan Herb Company. To view a Certificate of Analysis
